MALCOLM airs on Channel4 tonight as part of the IRIS PRIZE Internal Conflict programme of short films, and is available to stream right now! You can watch it HERE. 30/07/23: MALCOLM SHORTLISTED FOR IRIS PRIZE!

MALCOLM has been selected as one of the 15 UK films shortlisted for the IRIS PRIZE BEST OF BRITISH AWARD 2023! As part of this prestigious selection, MALCOLM will air on CHANNEL 4/FILM 4 at the end of the year. Will keep you posted once we have the broadcast date.

26/06/23: ‘WHEN IT RAINS’ WINS DOCS IRELAND AWARD

Great news yesterday for WHEN IT RAINS, which took home the MARILYN HYNDMAN AWARD at DOCS IRELAND. When It Rains is a short documentary film about the skateboarding community in Carrickfergus, directed by Daniel Ritchie, produced by Joanna McClurg, supported by Northern Ireland Screen. This was my first time scoring a documentary, loved working on this wonderful story of an amazing community. Congratulations to them all!


20/02/23: ‘MALCOLM’ FILM SCORE NEWS

This weekend I delivered my score for MALCOLM, a short film written/directed by Caleb J Roberts, produced by Callum Harrison for OUT OF ORBIT FILMS, supported by Northern Ireland Screen and BFI.

HOMEBIRD, the first short film I scored for Caleb, is still available to watch on ALL4. It has been fantastic to see the film doing so well as it travels around the film festival world, and I’m thrilled to have been asked to score MALCOLM too. More details to follow…..

06/01/23: ALTERNATIVE ULSTER-JOHN PEEL’S FAVOURITE MUSIC SCENE?

Sometimes I’m reminded of the John Peel Sessions I recorded in the 1990s, and I still can’t quite believe it happened. So, it was a real treat to reminisce with Mark Gordon about our trips to Maida Vale Studios with Tunic, for this BBC Radio documentary. You can hear our stories alongside the likes of Ash, Therapy, and The Undertones of course, on BBC Radio Ulster this weekend, and on BBC Sounds now!

22/11/22: HEN HOOSE ROUND II

Over the moon to be part of HEN HOOSE, an incredible female / non-binary songwriting collective. The full line-up for Hen Hoose Round II was announced today, all made possible due to funding from Creative Scotland and an amazing christmas present last year from Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon! So grateful to Tamara and the team for having me on board. Can’t wait to share the music with you!


08/11/22: HOMEBIRD ON CHANNEL 4

HOMEBIRD, winner of BEST DEBUT IRISH SHORT FICTION at GALWAY FILM FLEADH this year, was screened on Channel4 last week and is available to watch on demand HERE! Thrilled to hear one of my short film scores on TV!

Set against the backdrop of the Northern Irish coast, HOMEBIRD explores the relationship between an emotionally-reclusive father struggling to re-connect with his estranged gay son during a night at the seafront amusements. HOMEBIRD was written and directed by Caleb J Roberts and produced by Callum Harrison for Out of Orbit Films.


26/08/2022: ‘NEWBIE’ FILM SCORE NEWS

This week I delivered my score for NEWBIE, a short film about a young social worker on her first day, coming to terms with the reality of her impossible job. Newbie was written and directed by Emma Williamson, produced by Mount Wolff Films, supported by Northern Ireland Screen. I loved working with Emma again, this is the second short film I’ve scored for her, she is a brilliant collaborator and a joy to work with!

18/02/22: SOFT GUT SONG CAMP

In October last year I was invited to take part in the first Soft Gut Song Camp. This took place over 2 days at the amazing Analogue Catalogue Recording Studios in Northern Ireland. Great to meet these folks in real life and to write some cool songs with them. Applications are open now for the next one, get involved!


13/09/21: EDINBURGH DJ ACTION!

EDINBURGH! After what seems like an eternity (well, since Christmas 2018), I’ll be back DJing in Edinburgh next month, thanks to EVOL’s 30th birthday celebrations. I spent a good part of my teens on the EVOL dancefloor, and many fun nights DJing there. Looking forward to being reunited with old friends and oh my goodness there will be dancing.

02/04/21: D.I.T VIRTUAL SONGWRITING CAMP

Some of you may remember I took part in a songwriting camp in Nashville a couple of years ago, organised by the UK Dept of International Trade (D.I.T) Since the Nashville & LA camps could not go ahead last year, the good people at D.I.T, Distiller Music and Ostereo put together a virtual camp instead, running from Sunday 28th March to Thursday 1st April. I spent 5 days writing with amazing writers from LA, Nashville, New York, Glasgow and London. 5 songs in 5 days, it was an absolute blast! Hopefully you will hear some of these songs very soon.

I was invited by Steve McCann to take part in the Belfast leg of the Bert Jansch “Around the world in 80 plays” project. I performed a few songs acoustically using the Yamaha which is travelling the globe as we speak, you can read more about the project here.

I’ve just returned from a fantastic four weeks in the US, which began with a songwriting camp in NASHVILLE organised by the UK Dept of International Trade. I left with 7 songs co-written with US and other UK writers, and so many amazing memories!
